Study: Diligently Visiting Museums and Art Galleries to Make Longevity

There are many ways to be able to live long . Starting from diet, exercise, walks, and  healthy lifestyle . But a recent study says that visiting museums, art galleries, theaters, or concerts on a regular basis can help you to live longer.



This research was conducted by researchers at University College London on 6,710 adults over the age of 50 years. Research participants reported that they often took part in art activities, including going to the theater, concerts, operas, museums, art galleries, and exhibitions. The researchers then followed up for an average of 12 years.

Citing AFP, the results of this study were published inThe British Medical Journal (BMJ). The results obtained are people who engage in art activities between 1-2 times a year have a lower risk of death of 14 percent compared with those who have never participated in art activities.


Another result is that the more often people are involved in art events, the lower the risk of death. People who attend art events every few months or more have a lower risk of death of 31 percent.

Researchers say that there is a theory that art can prolong life, improve mental health, reduce loneliness, develop cognitive reserves, reduce bad behavior, and reduce bad risk-taking behavior.

Previous studies also revealed that engaging with the arts can improve physical and mental well-being, including depression, dementia, chronic pain, and weakness. (chs)
